Newcastle fans are in high spirits after their first win of the season, and they are full of praise for summer signing Federico Fernandez.
Most Newcastle fans would admit they were a little underwhelmed by the signing of Fernandez.
The veteran defender had just been relegated with Swansea, and it felt like a panic buy after the injury to Florian Lejeune.
The 32-cap Argentine international has been practically flawless though, and probably the Magpies’ most consistent performer so far this season.
He is averaging 2.5 aerial wins and a whopping seven clearances per game, and he was at his very best in the win over Watford.
The 29-year-old was at his very best during the 1-0 win over Watford, winning four aerial duels and completing 89 per cent of his passes.
You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, where the once-controversial signing is now looking like a stroke of genius from Rafael Benitez…
Actually can’t believe how good Fede Fernandez has been I reckon he’s been our best and most consistent player 🙌🏻 #nufc

We have a few leaders emerging in that squad. That’s what will keep us up. Fernandez could quite comfortably replace Lascelles as club captain, he’s a warrior & a classy player.
All we’re lacking is supplies for Rondon. We needed Andros Townsend & Rafa knew it #nufc

Lascelles, Lejeune, Fernandez and Schär….
Have we had a better selection of centre-backs in the last 30 years?

The way Dúbravka and Fernandez are playing atm, Ashley will be rubbing his hands together thinking of the profit he can make.

You'd have to say Lascelles, Lejeune, Fernandez, Schar and Clark look like the deepest set of decent centrebacks at #NUFC for a very, very long time.
