Newcastle fans lavish praise on Robert

Laurent Robert could strike a football, there is absolutely no question about that.

The nine-time France international started his professional career at Montpellier back in 1994, and also represented Paris Saint-Germain before joining Newcastle United in 2001.

The midfielder turned out for the Magpies for five years – scoring 32 times in 181 appearances before leaving for Portuguese outfit Benfica in 2006.

Robert actually scored 10 times during his first season at St James’ Park, and there is no question that he is still highly regarded by the English club’s supporters.

Robert turned 43 years of age on Monday, and as expected, Newcastle’s official Twitter account was on hand to lavish praise on the left winger.

There is a general feeling that Robert did not receive the recognition he deserved when considering what he brought to St James’ Park between 2001 and 2006.
