Newcastle fans have yet another reason to love Martin Dubravka, after the Slovakian stopper dedicated Saturday’s clean sheet to the late great Pavel Srníček.
Newcastle fans have been in dreamland since about 3:01 on Saturday afternoon, as their team swept aside relegation rivals Southampton, 3-0.
Kenedy opened the scoring with a brace, before Matt Ritchie buried a third for the Magpies. The defensive display was equally impressive though, and Dubravka grabbed his second clean sheet in four Premier League appearances.
Pavel Srníček, who made 152 league appearances on Tyneside, would have turned 50 on Saturday. The Czech keeper died in 2015 after suffering a cardiac arrest, and will always be a club legend at St. James’.
Dubravka, who joined on loan from Sparta Prague in January, has quickly endeared himself to Newcastle fans as a player and is now endearing himself as a man as well.
The job isn’t over as far as escaping relegation goes, but the Newcastle fans are finally feeling their iconic connection with the players that has all too often been missing in recent years.
Dubravka himself is becoming a fan favourite, and fans have been reacting to his latest act on Twitter…
