Newcastle fans loved Shelvey’s Watford performance

Newcastle fans are heaping praise on Jonjo Shelvey despite their side’s 2-1 defeat at Watford on Saturday.

There’s a strange feeling around Newcastle at the moment. The Magpies have lost three in a row, Mike Ashley is still in charge much to the dismay of most fans, and yet there is a feeling of optimism around the club.

The Magpies’ third consecutive league defeat came at Watford on Saturday, as a first half flurry gave the hosts all three points.

Ayoze Perez answered for the visitors in the second half, but despite their dominance they came away from Vicarage Road with nothing.

Despite the result though, fans were once again delighted by the performance of Jonjo Shelvey, who is surely guaranteed a World Cup spot given his form since Christmas.

The “discipline problems” that are so often noted as a blot in his copybook have not been an issue for several months, and his performances have gone from strength to strength.

The 26 year-old was at his very best again on Saturday, completing by far the most passes on his team with 94, including a remarkable 14 accurate long balls.

Fans are ecstatic with the form of their midfield maestro, and some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…
