Newcastle fans could have been forgiven for being devastated after their late collapse allowed Manchester United to come back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 on Saturday, but many were happy with the performance and excited by the strike partnership that Rafa Benitez went with.
The Spaniard handed summer signing Yoshinori Muto his first start at Old Trafford, and the Japanese international repaid his faith with a fantastic performance and brilliant finish to put the visitors 2-0 up after just ten minutes.
Brazilian loanee Kenedy put Newcastle ahead after seven minutes, before Muto’s turn and finish past David de Gea put the struggling Magpies in dreamland. This was also the first time that Ayoze Perez had started in the same side as Muto, and the pair caused Manchester United’s defence trouble all game, giving fans hope for the rest of the season, despite the United comeback.
Check out some of the best tweets in reaction to the new partnership below.
Love Muto. Cracking little whippet. His goals superb, also what was Perez about yesterday ? Where’s that player been. Quick, strong and playing the ball early. He’s so frustrating as you know he has ability.

Played so much better with Muto alongside him rather than having to try to feed off lumping it to Joselu/Rondon

Perez and Muto up top though! Playing almost that style of football Leicester played in their winning season. I think those two together can be quite the partnership. Certainly the best attacking display so far, which in fairness doesn’t say much. #nufc

Ayoze Perez had only created 1 chance before yesterday. He created 3 chances yesterday. Muto effect pic.twitter.com/IQzmqYaw2J

i think Muto is a striker and i feel we play better with a more fluid mobile striker. muto and perez for me

We scored a couple , looked like we we’re on speed the first half .Jonjo pinging them about for fun again ,Perez and Muto linking up brilliantly. We ran out of steam and they grew into the game .Loads of positives there ,massive games coming up .

Can’t fault any of the lads who started that game, Perez was class, Muto looked a handful, Shelvey was superb, Dubravka made some tremendous saves, Jamaal was a leader, but the severe lack of quality we have on the bench is worrying! You can not kill off a game with those changes
