Newcastle fans are bemused by a report claiming Floyd Mayweather wants to take over the club and buy Cristiano Ronaldo.

A report on page 13 of Sunday’s Daily Star claimed boxing legend Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather wants to buy Newcastle, and bring his friend Ronaldo to the club to end his career.

Mayweather, who is estimated to have banked over $1billion in revenue from his boxing career, won his final big money clash with UFC star Conor McGregor last year.

The boxer has expressed his love for Newcastle in the past, but mostly for the nightclub scene rather than the football. Now he claims to have an interest in venturing into the footballing world, with Newcastle his preferred choice.

“I love Newcastle. Those guys like to party as hard as any city I have been to anywhere in the world. I met some of the players last year – and they are good guys. I am always open to new business opportunities and I love all sports, but I invest with my head not my heart,” the 41 year-old said.

“But if somebody put together a business plan and my people looking over it and went ‘Floyd that can make money’ then I would invest,” Mayweather continued.

“Soccer might not be my game but I’ve got connections everywhere. Cristiano Ronaldo has been a long-time supporter and buddy of mine, so I might even be able to get him to finish his career off at Newcastle.”

Of course, this report should be taken with the biggest handful of salt imaginable, and the Chronicle claims that absolutely no contact has taken place between Mayweather’s team and Newcastle.

Newcastle is up for sale, but fans are keeping their wits about them, and certainly are not all that convinced by the Daily Star exclusive.
