According to the Telegraph, Mike Ashley will look to sell Newcastle this summer if they secure Premier League survival, but fans are having none of it.

The report claims that Ashley is open to selling the club this summer, and could even reopen talks with Amanda Staveley. Ashley discussed a sale to Staveley last year, but called talks a waste of time after they collapsed.

Newcastle host Huddersfield this weekend in what could be a deciding fixture in their survival hopes. If the reports that Ashley will sell if they stay up are true, then it could be a defining fixture for the club’s entire future.

Fans have been angered plenty of time by the actions of Ashley, who they feel has not backed managers properly in the transfer market since taking over in 2006.

According to the Telegraph’s report, there are at least two new parties interested in buying the club, but everything is on hold while Rafa Benitez’s side fights for survival.

One would think a takeover report would be music to the ears of disillusioned football fans, but Newcastle fans have been here before, and they’re not buying it.
