Newcastle fans on Twitter split on Fernandez signing

Newcastle United announced the capture of Federico Fernandez from Swansea for £6m on deadline day and their fans were split on what to make of the Argentine.

Magpies fans have suffered a difficult summer, during which Rafa Benitez has been forced to only spend money he has made from player sales by owner Mike Ashley. Newcastle ended the window with six additions to the squad and 10 departures, and their record transfer still remains £17m for Micheal Owen in 2005.

Fernandez joins for just £6m though, which could be a good deal for the club if he can rediscover the form he showed while playing under Benitez at Napoli. Last season he made 30 appearances as the Swans were relegated from the Premier League.

Fernandez is eligible to face Tottenham on Tyneside this Saturday, but the Newcastle fans on Twitter couldn’t agree whether his signing was a step forward for the club or not. Check out some of the best reactions here.
