Midfielder Isaac Hayden could yet stay with Newcastle United this summer despite reportedly handing in a transfer request – as covered by The Mirror.
The 23-year-old is said to be keen to leave St James’ Park due to family reasons, and Brighton & Hove Albion have already been credited with an interest.
However, Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez said from the team’s training camp in Ireland on Tuesday that he was still hopeful of keeping him.
Hayden, who is valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, joined Newcastle from Arsenal in 2016, and was impressive in the club’s 2016-17 Championship title-winning campaign.
The midfielder also made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies last term – featuring in 26 of their 38 Premier League matches.
Benitez knows that he cannot afford to lose Hayden this summer without signing a replacement, and the Spaniard is still hopeful over the midfielder’s future.
