Newcastle’s Deadline Day could take a turn for the worse amid claims from TEAMtalk that winger Matt Ritchie wants to seal a shock move away from the Tyneside club.
Ritchie is one of the Magpies’ most important players and leads the way for Premier League assists throughout their first team squad this season. He also scored a late winning penalty in Newcastle’s unexpected 2-1 win over Manchester City on Tuesday night.
TEAMtalk claim the Gosport-born winger wants to return down south, however making that decision on Deadline Day is undoubtedly bizarre. But Lee Ryder, The Chronicle’s chief Newcastle United writer, has gone some way to pouring cold water over a late Ritchie exit.
#nufc have had no bids for Matt Ritchie despite the claims.

Despite Ritchie’s apparent desire to move on, Ryder insists the Magpies are yet to receive any offers for the 29-year-old midfielder.
All in all then, a late Ritchie departure seems incredibly unlikely. Here’s a look at how Newcastle fans reacted to Ryder’s update on the situation on Twitter…

I wouldn’t sell Ritchie at any price tbh Lee. He’s not the greatest player we’ve ever had but his attitude and commitment to the club is class as well as on and off the pitch.

It has to be fake because his family live with him so to say he wants to move closer to his family is just trash talk. His interview after the city game showed how commited he is.
