According to Uruguayan media outlet Ovacion, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has enquired about bringing Hull City striker Abel Hernandez to St James' Park this summer, and Magpies fans have been quick to have their say on the rumour.

The 27-year-old centre-forward's contract at the KCOM Stadium expires at the end of the season, and it seems likely that he will leave the Championship club seeing as there have been no developments over a potential new deal, which is worth £35,000-a-week according to the Daily Mail.

The Uruguay international has missed the majority of Hull's campaign through injury, but he has returned to action in recent weeks and has scored eight goals in just 10 Championship appearances this term.

Newcastle supporters, who have expressed their desperation to sign Bournemouth's Josh King on Twitter, took to social media to give their thoughts on the potential of Hernandez joining the Tyneside outfit this summer, and while one said "Rafa out if true", another disagreed and said "Abel Hernandez is one hell of a striker".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
