[ad_pod ]Loads of Newcastle fans have been discussing Joey Barton, after the former Magpie commented on the club’s vacant managerial position.Newcastle fans have been through a lot in the last few years, but losing Rafael Benitez might hurt more than anything else. The Spaniard just ‘got it’ when it came to the Toon Army and the passion they share for their club and city, but the club confirmed this week that he will leave when his contract expires on Monday. And with the club’s potential takeover still completely up in the air and no concrete signs of who the new boss will be, Barton was asked about the role.

"It's the first I have heard of it (links to the job). It is a phenomenal football club but I am a young manager learning my trade," Barton told Sky Sports, via The Evening Chronicle.

"I love everything I am doing at Fleetwood, there is a great group of players, great group of people I am working with.

"I am happy with where I am. I am learning and it is important that I continue to learn if I am going to fulfil my potential as a coach.

"I had four great years there as a player so it is a club that is very close to my heart. But on the flip side, Rafa Benitez going out, it is a tough act to follow. He did an incredible job there and the Premier League is a tough league.

"If Newcastle ever come calling, for any manager by the way, it is tough (to refuse). But I am happy where I am. I do feel I need a period of time to really learn my trade. We cross those bridges when we come to them."

Loose cannon or vital cog in the Newcastle's machine? The Magpie Channel think it would be a mistake to sell the player in the video below...

The 36 year-old has been in charge of Fleetwood since last summer, and made 84 appearances at St. James’ Park during his playing days.

He is clearly not intending to take up the post on Tyneside yet, nor is he likely to be seriously considered, but that hasn’t stopped fans from joking about what life would be like with the infamously fiery ex-midfield man at the helm.
