A late Willy Boly header earned Wolves a point against Newcastle United at Molineux on Monday night. Rafa Benitez will have been gutted to see his side lose their lead in such a fashion, but will generally be proud of their display.
The equaliser itself was shrouded in some controversy, as Boly arguably fouled the Magpies’ goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, on his way to heading the ball in. Defensively, though, questions must be asked of the Toon Army. Fabian Schar, in particular, should have done more to challenge the rising Wolves man.
The Switzerland international had an eventful game all round. Whilst he was at times sloppy in possession, and arguably culpable for the goal conceded late on, he also provided one of the stand out moments of the match.
Early in the second half, the 27-year-old broke forward from the defence with the ball at his feet and ran at the Wolves rearguard. He then slid through a perfectly weighted pass for Isaac Hayden to latch onto, who then slammed the ball home to give the Tyneside outfit the lead.

Schar, then, endured a game of ups and downs, which generated plenty of interest and debate on Twitter. Here’s a look at how the 46-cap Switzerland international’s performance divided Newcastle fans…
To be fare, Yedlin & Schar were awful yesterday.. #nufc

Schar had a shaky start but improved as the game progressed. Yedlin still suspect in his positioning and seems to get burned every time he comes up against a pacy winger

Seen people ripping into Schar all game. Baffled me cause I was impressed with him too.

Lejeune, Yedlin & Schar full of misplaced passes and bad touches tonight. #NUFC

That was a kick in the teeth. Top performance away from home tho. Longstaff and Schar MOTM for me. pic.twitter.com/xI3gk1BdiG

Mark come on man it was never a foul. Poor defending we hardly shut down a single cross this eve and Schar stood and watched for their equaliser #NUFC

Controversy aside. Newcastle were class tonight. Lascelles, Longstaff, Rondon, Ritchie, Schar and Almiròn all class!!
