According to The Mirror, Newcastle United are considering bringing in Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers to replace Rafa Benitez if the Magpies’ poor form doesn’t improve soon.
Newcastle currently find themselves in 19th place in the Premier League table and are yet to record a single victory with eight matches played.
However, the Tyneside club have endured a tricky early run of fixtures that has seen them already face the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United. Many of the club’s supporters retain their faith in Benitez’s ability to turn this poor run around and guide them to top flight safety once again this season.
Should Mike Ashley decide to pull the trigger on Benitez however, then the experienced Rodgers would represent a fine appointment at St James’ Park. Whilst Celtic themselves have had a slow start to the new season, Rodgers’ record in Scotland is near impeccable. What’s more, he has previously impressed in the Premier League with Swansea and Liverpool.
Plenty of Newcastle fans took to Twitter following the emergence of this story to express their own views.
If rafa does go (and no one can blame him), Rodgers would probably be the best appointment we could make.

I doubt it this very much. No one in their right mind would come here at the moment with the way Ashley and his three not so wise numpties are going on

Why in the world would he come and work with Ashley. No one will want the job.

no way he would leave Celtic to come here

If Rafa leaves then I wouldn’t mind but don’t sack Rafa for him

The problem is not Rafa. Rodgers would have the same problems. #nufc
