So it was all just a big joke after all. Paddy Power have now confirmed that their sponsorship of Huddersfield's new kits was fake, to the great disappointment of us all, and the team will in fact have an unsponsored kit come the start of the 2019/20 season.

The Terriers' rumoured new kit, which featured a ridiculous Paddy Power sash, had everyone from Peter Crouch to Arsenal Fan TV talking about it.

Poundland may just have topped that hilarious marketing ploy though, as managing director Barry Williams decided to rinse Magpies owner Mike Ashley, as he sent him a message that had the Toon Army in tears.

Williams offered to sponsor the Magpies in a similar fashion to that absurd Huddersfield strip, and even pointed out the similarities between Poundland as a company and Ashley himself, such as their frugalness.

Of course, the fans absolutely loved it and were quick to jump to Twitter to express their thoughts.
