According to Football Insider, Newcastle United have set their sights on signing Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck this summer, and the Magpies' faithful have been quick to have their say on the intriguing transfer report following a tweet by fan account NUFC360.

Football Insider report that the 28-year-old isn't expected to be offered a new deal by the Gunners with his contract due to run out in the summer, which means he will be available on a free come the summer window.

Football Insider say that a source close to the England international says the Tyneside outfit are ready to battle Premier League rivals Everton and clubs across Europe for the attacker’s signature, and they are keen whether manager Rafa Benitez ends up staying or not.

Should Welbeck arrive at St James' Park it would be interesting to see whether he would be used up top or out wide, with Benitez preferring something of a 5-4-1 system as things stand.

Of course the centre-forward role could be his if Newcastle fail to sign Salomon Rondon on a permanent basis from West Bromwich Albion, with the Venezuelan impressing during his loan spell in the north east.

Every away fan seems to face the same problem at St. James' Park. Find out what in the video below...

United supporters have been quick to have their say on the link via social media, and while one said "if he can stay fit I would 100% take him", another said "not sure we want to sign a sick note".
