Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder revealed the latest in the club’s hunt for Paraguay and Atlanta playmaker Miguel Almiron.
The Magpies appeared to have agreed a fee in the region of £20m for the 24-year-old a few weeks ago, but their pursuit of a man who would smash the club’s transfer-record appears to have hit a stumbling block over the player’s wage demands.
Almiron is said to want £100k-a-week to team up with Rafa Benitez at St James Park, which has been described as an ‘astronomical’ amount by club chiefs.
With this kind of situation being the norm on Tyneside with Mike Ashley at the helm, fans of the struggling Premier League side are unsurprised that their beloved club is once again being tight with their cash, especially when a marquee signing is so close to completion.
Let’s take a look at how Newcastle fans reacted to the latest update…
a waste of everyone’s time as usual. if we’re allegedly going to break our transfer record to sign him then we have to be prepared to pay the salary that goes with the price tag. it’s almost as if we had no intention of signing him in the first place… hmmmm…

At a very early stage you ask for basic info I.e. fee and wages just more time wasting antics from #nufc I refuse to believe they now just asking about wages?

It’s far from astronomical. It’s a premier league footballers wage, but #NUFC only want to pay championship wages. He will get that at another premier league club.

You cant expect a 20/25mil player to want to play for peanuts, 100k is a going rate these days

Not defending the club (at all) but it’s a big gamble on an unproven player.

Alimiron plays in the US, where top players from around the world go for a big payday before retirement. I’m not surprised by the huge wage demands & he has no EPL experience. The only criticism I have of @NUFC over this is that we’ve wasted so much time on him. We move on.

Seems a fair wage for the lad. Might make a profit off him if/when we go down. We don’t have players worth £10million+ to punt, Wijnaldum/Sissoko broke the fall to the Championship.
