Matthew Longstaff made his first senior start for Newcastle United in their 2-1 defeat at Preston North End on Saturday.

And the 19-year-old, who is the younger brother of Magpies ace Sean Longstaff, has been hailed by the Newcastle fans for his strong performance.

It remains to be seen whether the teenager is given the chance to impress for the first team during the 2019-20 campaign.

However, a number of the club's supporters were pleased with what they saw from the younger Longstaff, who will be looking to follow his brother into the first team.

Steve Bruce's side have just two more friendlies before the start of competitive action - facing Hibernian on Tuesday night before taking on Saint-Etienne this weekend.

The Magpies will then begin their 2019-20 Premier League campaign at home to Arsenal on August 11.
