According to The Guardian sport’s deputy news editor Ed Aarons via his official Twitter account, long-term Newcastle United target Tom Cairney has been the subject of a £15m bid from West Bromwich Albion with Fulham keen to sign Toon striker Dwight Gayle if he goes, and Magpies fans have proposed a swap deal involving the duo.

The Tyneside outfit wanted the playmaker during the summer, with The Independent reporting in June that Whites boss Slavisa Jokanovic had said that they had rejected a £20m bid from them for the 26-year-old.
Now the Baggies and former United manager Alan Pardew is keen on the Scotland international, who has scored one goal and provided a further two assists in 17 Championship appearances this term following an injury-hit campaign, with the Cottagers interested in Gayle if an exit goes through.
Newcastle supporters were quick to have their say on the rumours involving Cairney and Gayle via social media, and while one said “swap Gayle for Cairney”, another asked “surely someone at the club would explore the possibility of a swap deal?”
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Fulham apparently want Gayle if Cairney leaves. Surely someone at the club would explore the possibility of a swap deal? #nufc
