Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere announced via his official Instagram account on Tuesday night that he would be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the month, and Newcastle United fans have urged their club to bring him to St James' Park.

The 26-year-old, rated at £18m by Transfermarkt, had been offered a deal on reduced terms to stay with the north London outfit, but he revealed that he had chosen to reject it after talks with new boss Unai Emery confirmed that he wasn't going to be a regular starter if he remained at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Magpies manager Rafa Benitez is keen to strengthen his squad this summer and while he will surely hold an interest in signing someone like Wilshere for nothing, the fact he already has Mikel Merino, Jonjo Shelvey, Mo Diame and Isaac Hayden in the middle of the park may suggest that a deal won't happen unless one or two of those go.

Newcastle supporters, who are hating the idea of a potential move for another £18m-rated attacker, were quick to have their say on the England international via social media, and while one said "imagine him and Shelvey man", another said "if there's one player I'd love to see in a Newcastle shirt it's Jack Wilshere".
