Newcastle’s hopes of securing a late deal for Bafetimbi Gomis have been dealt a blow, with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas ruling out a move for the striker.
The Magpies have been eyeing the Frenchman for most of the summer, and are said to be ready to make one last attempt to secure his signature before the transfer window closes.
Alan Pardew came close to concluding a £7million agreement for Gomis last month, but the deal collapsed as Loic Remy arrived at St James‘ Park on loan from QPR.
Despite having added the ex-Marseille man to their ranks, Newcastle were believed to plotting another offer for Gomis, but Aulas hinted that it is unlikely that the forward will be moving on.
“We have to face facts, there isn’t an offer that Bafe has accepted despite (interest from) the ‘English,” he is quoted by The Metro.
Newcastle have also missed out on the likes of Darren Bent and Samuel Eto’o, which may force Pardew to look elsewhere once again.
Former Toon idol Demba Ba has been linked with a loan move back to the North East from Chelsea, but a £2m fee to fund the deal could be a stumbling block.
Newcastle fans, Bafetimbi Gomis? Or Demba Ba?
