Newcastle keen on Tottenham raid

Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)Newcastle are could offer Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe a January exit route, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Spurs striker has spent the majority of the new season on the bench, with new signing Roberto Soldado firmly established as Andre Villas-Boas’ first choice front-man.

Despite speaking out to say that he is unhappy to be an ‘impact sub’, the 30-year-old looks set to be pushed into such a role at White Hart Lane.

This has led to rumours that he may seek to move on in January in a bid to secure regular football in the build up to the 2014 World Cup.

Newcastle are one side who could offer him the opportunity he craves, with the Magpies desperate to add to their attacking armoury.

The ‘Toon’ were the only top tier squad not to invest in their first-team over the summer, with Loic Remy – a loan signing from QPR – the only man to move to St James’ Park during the last window.

Alan Pardew is thought to be a fan of Defoe, and is attracted to his impressive goal scoring instincts.

The experienced forward was linked with a temporary move to Harry Redknapp’s QPR recently.

Does Jermain Defoe owe himself a move?
