Newcastle looking to pounce on Liverpool’s transfer misery

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says that his side will “monitor” Loic Remy’s situation after the striker’s proposed switch to Liverpool collapsed.

The France international had agreed personal terms ahead of an £8.5m transfer from QPR, but issues that arose in his medical caused the Reds to pull the plug.

As a result he is set to return to Loftus Road following a loan spell at Newcastle last season.

In his time at St James’ Park Remy became a fans’ favourite, netting 14 Premier League goals for the Magpies.

The ‘Toon’ were interested in bring him back, but a desire to play European football caused them to back off as Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs circled.

But now with medical issues in the mix Newcastle may be able to sneak in ahead of their rivals, and Pardew has admitted that Remy’s situation is of interest to him:

“I am surprised about what’s happening with Loic because I thought he was signing for Liverpool and that door was slammed shut.” He told The Chronicle.

“I didn’t expect that, and we certainly had no problem with Loic during his time with us.

“So we shall monitor it as we go along.”

While Liverpool’s top four status opened up an £8.5m release clause in Remy’s contract, Newcastle may have to pay upwards of £12m for his signature.
