According to Bild, Newcastle are lining up a summer swoop for Hannover striker Niclas Füllkrug.

What's the story?

The report from Germany suggests several English clubs are pursuing the Hannover 96 striker, with Newcastle, Leicester and Watford leading the way in the Premier League.

The 25 year-old has scored 13 times in the Bundesliga this season, and has also drawn interest from the Championship.

It is no secret that Rafael Benitez is on the hunt for a new number nine, and German reports suggest Hannover will be happy to sell Füllkrug if their price is met.

Good fit for the Toon?

With reports this week that Islam Slimani will not stay at Newcastle when his loan spell ends, Newcastle are certain to be in the market for a new striker.

Aleksandar Mitrovic seems unlikely to recover his relationship with Benitez, and neither of Dwight Gayle or Joselu are good enough to carry a charge up the table for the Magpies.

Nicolai Jorgenson has been strongly linked with a move to Tyneside, but there is always a risk associated with signing players from lesser leagues.

Hannover’s Füllkrug has been one of the surprise packages of the Bundesliga this season, grabbing 15 goals and three assists in 37 appearances in all competitions.

The 25 year-old is fantastic in the air, winning 4.6 aerial duels per game in the league, and could be the perfect target man to start between Newcastle’s impressive wingers.

Füllkrug uses his excellent hold-up play to bring other attackers into the game as well, averaging over one chance created every game in the league this season.
