Newcastle may offload another ill-fated, big money summer 2015 addition, approach made

Marseille are keen to take Florian Thauvin from Newcastle on loan for a second time, according to reports from the Chronicle.

The 10-cap France U-21 international was one of a handful of big money signings made last summer as the Magpies set about making a serious effort to finish in the top half of the Premier League.

However, Thauvin flopped spectacularly and was shipped back to Marseille – the club he’d been bought from for £15m – over the winter for the remainder of the 2015/16 season as the ‘Toon’ were relegated.

The 23-year-old has since returned to Tyneside after his spell back on the south coast of France came to an end, and reports claim that l’OM have already made a fresh approach to loan the player again.

The silky winger is yet to feature in competitive action for Rafa Benitez, so it remains to be seen how the Spaniard feels about him, but he may decide that Thauvin could aid his side’s promotion push.

Newcastle have already sold Georginio Wijnaldum after just one season at the club, with the Dutchman joining Liverpool last week.
