The Daily Star claimed on Monday night that Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce wanted to bring Lyon forward Moussa Dembele to St James' Park this month.

However, according to journalist Alan Nixon, the Magpies stand little chance of signing the Frenchman due to his hefty price tag.

The 23-year-old has been in impressive form for Lyon during the 2019/20 campaign, finding the back of the net on 14 occasions in 28 appearances in all competitions.

What's more, the former Fulham youngster has a record of 34 goals in 74 outings for the French club since making the move from Celtic in 2018.

According to Nixon, Bruce is keen to spend big on a new striker before the January transfer window closes for business, but the Premier League club will not be able to secure a deal for Dembele as he is out of their price range.
