Newcastle must break the bank for Traore

According to the Mirror, Newcastle and Everton will battle Chelsea for the summer signing of Adama Traore.

What’s the story?

Former Barcelona winger Adama Traore has been a massive hit for Middlesbrough in the Championship, and the Mirror report says Chelsea are leading the way to sign the speedy winger.

The Blues won’t have it easy though, as both Newcastle and Everton are hoping the promise of more regular playing time can convince Traore to join.

Boro will of course want to keep the 22 year-old star, especially if they get promoted, but reports suggest a bid in the region of £30million could force their hand.

Traore has scored five and assisted ten for Boro this season, and Newcastle should do everything it takes to make him a Magpie.

Traore for Tyneside?

Nowhere in world football this season will you find a more impressive statistic than Adama Traore’s dribbling.

The speedy Spaniard has completed an average of 7.1 dribbles per game this season, a truly remarkable feat. For reference, PSG’s Neymar is averaging the exact same number with 7.1, while Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is lagging behind a bit with 4.8 per game.

Of course, Traore has always had the speed, power and technical ability to beat players, but his end product has been the biggest concern.

That has all changed this season though, as the 22 year-old has supplied ten assists in the Championship, and also chipped in with five goals.

According to Whoscored ratings, Traore has been Middlesbrough’s man of the match in eight out of their last ten matches, an almost absurd number.

The increase in the youngster’s production is no surprise when you look at his passing statistics, averaging 1.4 key passes per game and 1.2 crosses.

Newcastle fans are desperate for a new striker this summer, but if the Magpies can wrap up deals for Kenedy and Adama Traore, it might not really matter who they put between the two wing wizards.

So, Newcastle fans, would you back a huge summer swoop for Adama Traore? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
