Newcastle offered cut-price deal

Samuel Eto'o (Anzhi Makhachkala)Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala in a cut-price £5m deal, according to reports from The Metro.

The big spending Russians announced last week that they are planning to cut their lavish spending, which has resulted in a number of highly-paid players being put up for sale.

Among the star-studded list is Eto’o, who earns an eye watering £350,000-per-week – making him the highest paid footballer on the planet.

Anzhi are desperate to offload the Cameroonian, and have offered him around to a selection of clubs that includes Newcastle.

The Magpies are known to be in the market for attacking reinforcements, and are openly chasing Bafetimbi Gomis.

However, with their move for the Frenchman stalling, Eto’o may prove to be a tempting option.

The ex-Barcelona and Inter Milan ace would have to take a significant pay-cut to be anywhere near fitting into the club’s wage structure, but Joe Kinnear could be tempted to spend big in a bid to win over the fans with the addition of a global superstar.

Eto’o himself is said to be keen on a switch to the Premier League, and may be tempted by a role at Newcastle, where he would certainly be the star name and focal point of the team.

Could we really see Samuel Eto’o at Newcastle? Or is a transfer too unrealistic?
