Newcastle set to seal imminent deal for impressive midfielder (not Shelvey)

Newcastle are on the verge of sealing a £4.5m deal for impressive Bordeaux midfielder Henri Saviet, according to reports from RMC.

The 25-year-old Senegal international has been in good form for the Ligue 1 side this term both domestically and in Europe, and exposed himself to an English audience with a well-taken goal against Liverpool in the Europa League – which resulted from Simon Mignolet’s infamous 22-second ball-holding episode.

Although he’s been a key man at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux, Saivet’s future has been the subject of speculation for some time, with reports having already claimed that he’s available for a knock-down rate this month as his contract edges towards its expiration.

It’s already been claimed that the midfielder has travelled to Newcastle to seal a move, and now RMC have revealed that an agreement could be in place by the end of the day.

The ‘Toon’ have a solid record when it comes to signing players from Ligue 1, with the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko having moved to St James’ Park from France’s top tier in recent years.

Newcastle are also thought to be chasing Swansea’s Jonjo Shelvey.
