Newcastle's biggest issue during a successful 2017/18 Premier League campaign was their lack of cutting edge in the final third, and if their two matches in the current season are anything to go by there doesn't seem to have been a marked improvement.

While Kenedy and Salomon Rondon arrived at St James' Park on loan deals and Yoshinori Muto joined on a permanent basis, the goals are yet to flow with Joselu the only man to find the net thus far.

Magpies manager Rafa Benitez, who must revive his interest in a summer target come January to solve a left-back issue, got the two strikers he would have wanted during the summer but lost Dwight Gayle in the process, and it remains to be seen whether the trio he has available to him now have the ability to score the goals that will keep the Tyneside outfit out of trouble.

The Spaniard may already be thinking ahead to January for possible reinforcements, and one player that must have caught his eye is versatile Bristol City attacker Andi Weimann.

The Austria international, who can play as a centre-forward or out wide, only joined the Robins from Derby County earlier in the summer, but he has made a big impact with four goals in four league appearances, including two in the 3-0 success against a lowly Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Tuesday night.

While he scored a brace from three shots at goal and made two key passes, as per stats-based website WhoScored, he also showed that he is more than willing to work defensively for his team too by winning three tackles.

If Benitez wants an attacker with Premier League experience who can play in a variety of forward positions in the New Year, Weimann must be on his shortlist.
