Newcastle are one of the three teams interested in Porto winger Yacine Brahimi, but the Magpies should really be targeting PSV’s Hirving Lozano instead.

What's the story?

According to A Bola, Newcastle, Everton and Wolves are all lining up summer swoops for Algerian international Yacine Brahimi, who will be out of contract next summer.

Everton have also been heavily linked with a move for PSV winger Hirving Lozano, and Newcastle should definitely be rivalling that move instead.

The young winger was brought to PSV by transfer guru Marcel Brands, who took over as sporting director at Goodison last week.

"Brands brought me to PSV," the winger said. I'm grateful, happy, but I'm not thinking about whether I'm an option [for Everton].

"If there is an option to leave we'll decide what is the best decision for me and my family, but I'm concentrating on the national team."

The 22 year-old is clearly considering his options ahead of next season, and Everton are desperate for some more goals and creativity in their attack.

The Toffees grabbed Theo Walcott in January, but his arrival did little to aid their rather blunt attack, and fans grew tired of the negative football under Sam Allardyce.

Newcastle are in exactly the same boat as far as a lack of creativity goes though, and the Magpies should absolutely attempt to use Rafa Benitez's pedigree to lure the Mexican their way.

A versatile goal machine?

It is no surprise to see multiple Premier League clubs chasing Brahimi, as the Algerian international has certainly got quality.

The 28 year-old has grabbed 11 goals and eight assists in 44 appearances for Porto this season, but he predominantly plays on the left side, where Newcastle could save a lot of money by wrapping up another loan deal for Kenedy.

Lozano on the other hand can play anywhere across the front three, and the pacey Mexican has played some of his best stuff on the right, where Newcastle should be looking to upgrade on Matt Ritchie this summer.

Lozano’s lethal end product is what sets him apart from other wingers, bombarding opposition goals this season with 3.4 shots per game. This has bagged him 19 goals in all competitions, eight more than Brahimi, despite playing 11 less games.

The electric 22 year-old averages an incredible 2.6 key passes, 2.1 dribbles and 2.4 crosses per game for PSV, the type of numbers than any striker in Europe would be chomping at the bit to link up with.

If Newcastle can add a new number nine and jump ahead of Everton in the race for Lozano, Rafael Benitez could mastermind one of the most potent attacks in the Premier League next season.
