Newcastle should raid Everton for Lookman this summer

Everton are looking to bolster their attacking ranks this summer, and Newcastle should absolutely take advantage if the Toffees sign another winger.

What’s the word?

According to reports in Portugal this week, Everton are eyeing up a move for Sporting CP winger Gelson Martins, as Marco Silva looks to add more firepower in his first summer at Goodison.

This adds to the recent links to Richarlison, and Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri has also been mentioned as an Everton target on more than one occasion.

It seems pretty clear that Silva and new director of football Marcel Brands are chasing another wide man, so what does that mean for Ademola Lookman?

The young Englishman was signed from Charlton in January 2017, but has barely played for the Toffees, despite looking bright when he’s had the chance.

After impressing on loan with Red Bull Leipzig, would a temporary move up north to Newcastle be perfect for the youngster?

The Magpies have not been linked to Lookman – who Transfermarkt value at £10.8million – but if they are priced out of a deal for Kenedy then the young Toffee could be the perfect alternative.

A loan deal could be beneficial to all parties, as Everton get to see their man playing regularly in the Premier League, and Newcastle get an exciting, hungry attacking player without forcing Mike Ashley to spend money we all know he doesn’t want to spend.

A Kenedy alternative?

Newcastle fans are desperate for Chelsea’s Kenedy to return to Tyneside, after the feisty Brazilian endeared himself to St. James’ Park during his loan stay with some crucial goals, crunching tackles and dazzling skills.

Lookman has plenty of flair of his own though, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Leipzig tried to sign him permanently, after the 20 year-old grabbed five goals and three assists in 11 Bundesliga appearances.

If Everton sign someone like Richarlison or Martins, Lookman is unlikely to get first team minutes against the likes of Yannick Bolaise, Theo Walcott and even Gylfi Sigurdsson, as Silva’s favoured 4-3-3 formation could force the Iceland international to become a winger as well.

The young Englishman desperately needs to be playing week in week out, and his ability to play anywhere across the attack would be a huge boost for the Magpies.

Rafael Benitez wants a marquee signing up front this summer, so getting a player with Lookman’s talent without spending a penny could be a major coup for the Toon Army, and help them spend their funds elsewhere.
