Newcastle defender Massadio Haidara is unable to put a date on his return but hopes to be back in action ‘sooner rather than later’.
The defender escaped serious injury following a horror tackle from Wigan’s Callum McManaman last time out but he still suffered severe bruising to his thigh and is facing a spell on the sidelines. There has been a suggestion he could return against Benfica in the Europa League clash on April 4, but Haidara is refusing to say exactly when he will return.
“I hope to be back sooner rather than later,” he told the Chronicle.
“I don’t have any precise date for that. In the meantime, I will work hard here. And of course I will be supporting the team, which I do all the time if I am playing or not.”
Meanwhile, Haidara believes the whole experience over the last couple of weeks has made him stronger although he admits it will be tough returning to the side.
“They say what doesn’t destroy you can make you stronger. That’s true,” he added. “It is going to be difficult for me to start with when I return.
“But I have learned a lot from this. I am learning more about the English game and it is a great education for me.”
