Newcastle star hoping to play his way to World Cup

Tim Krul is ready to prove himself to Holland coach Louis van Gaal ahead of the World Cup by maintaining his good form for Newcastle.

The Dutch stopper has been one of the Magpies’ top performers this term, but his consistent displays were not enough to get him into the Oranje’s squad for this week’s friendly games.

The 25-year-old has already represented his nation on five occasions, and has long been expected to make the grade ahead of the 2014 tournament.

Although he confessed that it was a blow to be overlooked for the France game, he says that he will not give up on breaking into van Gaal’s final 23:

“There are ten games left of this season and I have to show them that I am good enough to be part of our World Cup squad.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.

“It’s disappointing, obviously. I love playing for my country and my aim is to go to Brazil in the summer; that is what I want.

“Playing at the World Cup is the pinnacle of any player’s career. It is what you dream about as a kid and I am no different.

“I have to work hard and fight hard to get back into the squad.”

Krul is in direct competition with the likes of Jasper Cillessen, Michel Vorm, Jeroen Zoet and Maarten Stekelenberg to make it into Holland’s ranks for the trip to Brazil.
