The French midfielder has been one of the stars of the Magpies’ miraculous revival after a terrible start to the season, and his bombarding displays are rumoured to have attracted Arsene Wenger’s interest.
With the Gunners’ squad having been hit by a series of injuries to key personnel, the Emirates Stadium chief is understood to be ready to make moves in the coming transfer window, with a central star to fill his engine room a priority.
£16m is thought to be enough to land the 25-year-old from St James’ Park, with the managerial uncertainty in the North East another factor that the London club may have thought could boost their chances.
However, Sissoko says that he’s fully committed to Newcastle and that he’s keen to stay:
“I said all along I was happy here at Newcastle.” He told The Sun. “I will be here and trying to do my best for this club in 2015.
“I have played in different positions and on Sunday against Everton I was asked to play on the right side.
“I have played in the No. 10 spot as well.
“The coach considers me an important part of the group. I have sometimes been handed the captain’s armband and I am very happy with my role here.”
