Newcastle target’s future in doubt

Aston Villa's Darren BentDarren Bent‘s arrival at Newcastle is still doubtful as a transfer policy at St. James’ Park has not been decided on, The Metro has reported.

New director of football Joe Kinnear and manager Alan Pardew are still said to be considering their attacking options.

Aston Villa want £8million for Bent, and though the ex-Sunderland striker is believed to be keen on a move to the Magpies, Newcastle are uncertain about shelling out the required fee.

Instead, it appears Hull could tempt the 29-year-old, after Burnley’s Charlie Austin failed a medical and with Celtic’s Gary Hooper seemingly on his way to QPR.

Sports Direct News has also suggested that Wolfsburg and Roma are considering moves for Bent.

While Newcastle are undecided on who to add to their squad, it looks as though Dan Gosling is set to link up with Crystal Palace and Mike Williamson is close to finalising a deal with Cardiff.

Shola Ameobi has also been told that his 13-year stay on Tyneside is being brought to an end, with Middlesbrough or Sheffield Wednesday looking the most likely destinations.

Villa meanwhile, are on the lookout for suitors for Shay Given, Alan Hutton and Stephen Ireland, as well as Bent.
