Newcastle told to stump up cash for transfer

Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew must pay in excess of £8.5million for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomes, according to the Evening Chronicle.

The Toon are desperate to add at least one striker to their squad this summer and are once again looking at the French market to solve their troubles, as they did in January.

Newcastle are yet to make a first team signing since the arrival of opinionated Joe Kinnear who is overseeing all transfers and Pardew is resigned to the fact that he may start the season with the same squad that he had May.

Gomes has just one year left on his contract at Lyon but the French club are adamant that their striker will not leave for lower than their asking price, a common theme in this summer’s transfer window.

The 27 year old has refused to turn up for a meeting with the club president as he feels he is being priced out of a move to England.
