Tuesday’s Newcastle transfer roundup shared news on the club’s striker situation, interest in a Championship manager and the pursuit of an Uruguayan international. Today’s edition reveals an update on that second-tier boss, two men being warned off the top job and Toon eyes on a Serie A goalkeeper.
According to The Sun, Newcastle United are set to make an approach for Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce. The former Sunderland boss is the North East outfit’s number one choice to take the hot seat, and they are also willing to pay the compensation fee for the 58-year-old.
The Sun is also reporting that both Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta decided not to take the Newcastle job after having conversations with Rafa Benitez. Both of them have ruled themselves out after speaking to the Spaniard, who left St. James’ Park last month.
Newcastle are targeting Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin this summer according to Wednesday’s print edition of Corriere Dello Sport (via Sport Witness). Sevilla, Benfica, Fiorentina and Porto are also mentioned as potential suitors for the 6 foot 2 Italy international.
