Newcastle United could turn their attentions to Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost after the rejection of Alexandre Lacazette, according to the Northern Echo.
The Magpies reportedly had a bid by Lyon accepted for the French international, who turned down the move in order to remain his with club ahead of Euro 2016.
Now, they could rekindle their interest in towering Dutch international in order to add some much needed goals to their ranks.
The 26-year old is said to be unhappy in Germany and aiming to leave the club, though he has been in good form this season, notching seven goals.
While there was reported interest in the summer, the inconsistent form of £13.5m arrival Aleksandar Mitrovic has been a point of major disappointment on Tyneside, making the need for another forward even more obvious.
The Serbian has scored just three times in black and white and goals remain hard to come by for Steve McClaren’s side.
Charlie Austin has also been linked, though doubts remain over his fitness.
