Another day and another reason for Newcastle United fans to turn on owner Mike Ashley.
On this occasion the controversial businessman was interviewed by Martin Samuel for The Daily Mail, and he was asked about a variety of different things regarding the running of the club.
Since Ashley took over, he has overlooked two relegations and one European qualification, while the Magpies are yet to lift a trophy with him at the helm.
The mood had been one lined with tinges of newfound optimism during the past two seasons under Rafa Benitez, but the Spaniard failed to agree a new deal with the club and the rising optimism was stripped away when Steve Bruce was announced as his successor.
In the exclusive interview, Ashley spoke openly about his running of the club, the mistakes he’s made, the challenges he faces and the recent reports regarding a potential takeover.
It was the type of interview that was always going to attract plenty of attention amongst Newcastle fans, and they were particularly disgruntled by his comments concerning the club’s inability to compete with the top-six.
His admission regarding Tottenham’s shirt deal seemed to be a huge point of contention.
Here’s what they had to say in response to the interview…
He says we can’t compete with spurs shirt deal. When he took over in 2007 we were a bigger PL club than spurs, but theyve been run with ambition and are now 4 times the club we are. All down to Ashley and his atrocious running of NUFC

We can’t compete with the top six financially…… We aren’t competing with ANY of the premier league financially. We aren’t competing with Bornemouth for example who were 92nd in the football league when he took over NUFC.

Can’t compete with Tottenham? Can’t compete with the top 6? I think you’ll find, Mike, we were a bigger and more successful premier league club that Tottenham before you arrived. We WERE a top 6 club. It’s YOU that’s caused us to not be able to compete.

I’ve had Charnley say to me personally that ‘we can’t compete with Spurs’ and Ashley’s used it on more than one occasion. We were competing with them before he came in. In fact we were bigger than them before Ashley. Just look at the facts. #NUFC

#nufc was ahead of Spurs when Ashley bought it but once he reverted to his buy cheap sell high mantra it was game over starting with the Modric deal. Levy has continously backed his managers and see where they are now.

Of course!!!! If is Spurs have what they have now is bc they did a very good job to put themselves in that position. And Ashley has the chance to the same and chose not to
