This summer has not been the most exciting for Newcastle United fans, and some probably feel like it is groundhog day.

At the end of last season, club owner Mike Ashley insisted that all revenue generated by the club would be given to manager Rafael Benitez to spend on transfers.

So far, though, the Magpies have only recruited a free transfer and a loan in the form of Chelsea left-sided star Kenedy.

Understandably, the fans have been frustrated by the lack of activity, but there is a nugget of news that has left some with a renewed sense of hope.

On Saturday, The Sun reported that Newcastle are on the verge of lodging a £6m bid for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan.

The 24-year-old is believed to be wanted for cover, but he can play in a variety of positions, including on the left side of midfield or in the centre of the park.

On Twitter, Newcastle fans reacted to the reports, and many were delighted.
