The summer transfer window can throw up some bizarre links, particularly now that most of the rumours emerge on social media.
One such piece of speculation has left some Newcastle United fans feeling bewildered, and others pleased with the idea.
Twitter account @Total_NUFC posted on Tuesday that Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater is expected to leave the club, and St James’ Park is likely to be his new home.
I’m hearing Danny Drinkwater will be leaving Chelsea and that #NUFC is his likely destination. Chelsea want rid of him asap so this could progress quickly. Unknown if cash or loan deal at this time. pic.twitter.com/GSMWT8KXGq

This rumour does not seem to have much substance given that no news outlets seem to be carrying it.
Plus, a loan deal would not be an option given that Newcastle have already secured Kenedy from Chelsea on a temporary move for the season.

Drinkwater, who won the Premier League title with Leicester City in the 2015-16 campaign, signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2017 on a five-year deal.
It would not be hugely surprising if the midfielder was offloaded this summer due to the lack of game time at Stamford Bridge, but not many Newcastle fans believe that their club’s rumoured interest is true.
Others, though, would be keen on Drinkwater moving up to the North East.
Drinkwater would be an ideal replacement for Merino and give us real quality in depth.
No price tag mentioned yet though. #NUFC

Wouldn’t even get in the match day squad, nonsense unless a new world record bid comes in for Jonjo.
