For weeks now it was thought that Matt Ritchie was on his way out of Newcastle United and heading to Stoke City, but it seems that there has been a twist in the tale.
According to Chronicle Live football editor Mark Douglas, the winger is now set to stay due to Stoke’s pursuit of Tom Ince.
The reporter revealed the news via Twitter on Saturday evening.
Tom Ince will sign for Stoke on Sunday – which means Matt Ritchie stays at #nufc.
Good news for me. Good player.

If true, it would create a knock-on effect because Newcastle were looking at numerous candidates to replace Ritchie.
At the start of July, The Chronicle reported that the Magpies had reopened talks with Crystal Palace regarding a move for Andros Townsend.
The winger was part of the Newcastle fold two years ago, but he opted to leave the North-East outfit in 2016 when they suffered relegation to the Championship.
This latest news, though, suggests that if Ritchie stays then a move for Townsend will not be pursued.
Some Newcastle fans are pleased to hear that their man could be staying put, while others would have preferred the original plan to go ahead.
Unlike a lot of fans I’d of loved to of seen to Townsend back . Ritchie’s good grafter but Townsend is more direct , better crosser of the ball , quicker . Personally I’d rather see quality over graft but everyone to their own .

Good news for me. He might not be the best player in the side but a few times last season when heads were dropping he grabbed them by the scruff of the neck, upped the workrate and lead by example.

No Townsend though. Need more pace and goals from wide men.

I’ve thought for a while Townsend is rafas ideal number 10

He’s a grafter and that’s about it. Townsend a much better player. Pity

Good player. But Townsend is a great player in my opinion.
