Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley regularly receives abuse from supporters, but more so during a transfer window.
At the end of last season, the businessman promised that revenue generated by the club would be handed over to manager Rafael Benitez to spend in the transfer market.
Similar to the year before, the Spaniard is yet to see those funds as the club have been relatively quiet in the window.
So far, the North-East outfit have signed Martin Dubravka on a permanent contract, and have also welcomed Ki-Sung yueng to the club on a free transfer.
In addition, Kenedy will spend another season at St James’ Park after securing a loan deal from Chelsea.
Clearly, Newcastle are yet to spend any real money, which is why a handful of supporters are confused by reports linking the club with a swoop for Lille midfielder Thiago Mendes.
According to a recent report in The Times, the Magpies have enquired about the 26-year-old, who is valued at £18m, but West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town are also interested.
Fans had a similar reaction to the news, and it was centred around the price tag.

That means we will offer 5 or ask for a loan deal.

Our enquiry is ‘Is he available on loan? ‘ whilst others ask how much?

18m? we’ll be lucky if our transfer budget is 1.8m

18 mil we are not interested then , if 1.8 we would still struggle to put something together, plus things are that bad now any player would probably think twice about joining us , sad as it seems
