For most of the season, Newcastle United were in a relegation battle following their rise back to the top flight from the Championship.

However, following just two defeats between January and the start of April, the club managed to retain their Premier League status.

Rafael Benitez and his men currently sit in the top half of the table in 10th place, but they have suffered back-to-back defeats.

On Monday, the club were undone by a single goal from Everton's Theo Walcott, and this afternoon another 1-0 scoreline went against them as West Bromwich Albion took all three points.

Matthew Phillips's goal just before the half-hour mark was enough to give bottom-of-the-table Baggies all three points.

There was also some controversy in the game as Islam Slimani was caught by the TV cameras kicking out at West Brom's Craig Dawson, and as the incident was not spotted by the referee, the Newcastle striker could face retrospective action.

Slimani's actions caused some fans to once again question the departure of Aleksandar Mitrovic, who joined Fulham on loan in February.

Now, attention has turned to the result, and even though the club are safe, the supporters are furious by the manner in which the team lost this afternoon.
