Radio pundit and former Rangers star Ally McCoist has claimed that the Ibrox side are bigger than Newcastle United.

The legendary striker was speaking after reports linking current Gers boss Steven Gerrard with the vacant manager's position at St James' Park.

Rafa Benitez has left the club and the decision makers at Newcastle are currently on the hunt for someone who can take the club forward, with The Telegraph reporting that Gerrard was on a shortlist that also included Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist suggested that such a move for the Ibrox manager would be a step down and not the right thing for his career, with his reasoning being that Rangers are a bigger club than the Magpies.
