Dwight Gayle joined West Bromwich Albion on loan during the summer as part of the deal that took Salomon Rondon to Newcastle United.

Whilst Rondon is still waiting for his first Magpies goal, Gayle has netted three times in five Championship appearances for his new club.

Gayle netted six Premier League goals for Newcastle last term, but has proved to be much more effective in the Championship.

Indeed, the 27-year-old struck 13 times for Peterborough United during the 2012-13 Championship season, and 23 for Newcastle during their title-winning 2016-17 campaign.

Newcastle's official Twitter account pointed out that Gayle's brace had helped West Brom record a 2-1 win over Stoke City in the Championship at the weekend.

And the Premier League club's supporters were on hand with their reaction.

There were those who suggested that it was a mistake for Newcastle to send him on loan, although some feel that the Championship is Gayle's level.
