Newcastle United fans have reacted to comments made by forgotten player Achraf Lazaar about his struggles to get back into the first-team under Rafa Benitez.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Calciomercato (via Chronicle Live) the midfielder, who can operate at left-back as well, explained how he is trying his best to put in good performances for the club's reserve team in order to be recognised by the manager.

Lazaar provided three assists in the last two matches and although he has made peace with his current situation, the 26-year-old is dedicated to putting in the hard work on the training ground to convince Benitez that he should be part of the Premier League squad.

Newcastle have had a poor start to the season and are yet to register a win in the Premier League, as the fans continue to call for owner Mike Ashley to leave after a disappointing summer transfer window.

Lazaar joined the North East club in 2016 but only has a total of ten appearances to his name. He joined Italian club Benevento on loan last season where he also made a few rare appearances before returning to Newcastle in the summer.
