Newcastle United looking to bring in further signings ahead of new season

The Daily Express are reporting that Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren wants to further strengthen his strikeforce ahead of the new season by landing £12 million-rated Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan.

Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Stoke City are believed to be interested in the Uruguayan, who netted 15 times for Les Girondins in Ligue 1 last season.

The Magpies are also reportedly close to completing a £7.5 million deal for 20-year-old Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba, who will join on a five-year deal worth £30,000-a-week.

He is not the only player from Anderlecht to have made the move to the north-east this summer, with Newcastle having already signed Serbian hitman Aleksandar Mitrovic for £13 million.

And now the Magpies look set to bring in another high-profile attacker, with McClaren insisting he still has money to spend this summer.

“We’re working hard behind the scenes on a number of deals,” he confirmed.

Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum also became a Newcastle player earlier this month, joining the club from Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven.
