According to TransfermarketWeb, Newcastle are keen on a move for Monchengladbach's Patrick Herrmann - if the club pull it off, it could be the end of Kenedy's time on Tyneside.

What's the word?

Well, TransfermarketWeb reports that Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs tracking the German, who could leave this month with his contract set to expire in the summer.

The Magpies are likely to be low on funds thanks to owner Mike Ashley's minimal backing and the fact that talks of a takeover are on the rocks, with Ashley's demands not yet met by Peter Kenyon's consortium.

As a result, any move for the St James Park outfit's primary target, Miguel Almiron, is surely off the table as Atlanta demand at least £30m for the Paraguayan star - a fee that Ashley will never sanction given his track record in the transfer market.

However, with Herrmann seemingly being pushed out the door, he could be available on the cheap and would represent a good alternative for a Newcastle side lacking pace and creation.

Cult hero

The 27-year-old has become somewhat of a cult hero at his current club - he has played for The Foals since moving to the youth academy at Under 19 level and has racked up a whopping 282 appearances for the first team.

However, he has made just 11 appearances this season as he slips down the pecking order and the club will surely listen to offers for the speedster considering the looming threat of losing him on a free in less than six months.

Meanwhile, Newcastle lack pace beyond Kenedy and the winger will bring that in abundance, but it would most likely be the Brazilian who suffers from Herrmann's arrival - the Chelsea loanee has been criticised for his poor performances this season, with some fans even calling for his return to Stamford Bridge.

Herrmann could be seen as a direct replacement for the trickster and, if he was to show as much loyalty to the Toon Army as he has to Monchengladbach, the number 7 would surely become a fan favourite.
